Traditionnellement, les marins passent par des agents pour se faciliter la t\u00e2che mais il faut compter <strong>at least $400 more;<\/strong> so we decided to do it on our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout d&#8217;abord, apr\u00e8s avoir fais les d\u00e9marches administratives, <strong>an admeasurer<\/strong> comes on the boat. Par contre, il nous rappelle que nous devrons trouver quatres amarres de 40m et deux \u00e9quipiers suppl\u00e9mentaires. Ceux-ci s&#8217;appellent des <em>line handlers<\/em> and their purpose is to participate in the maneuvers. When passing through the locks, the helmsman maneuvers the boat and the four line handlers each manage a mooring line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&#8217;admeasurer nous dit aussi que <strong>our fenders will not be enough<\/strong> et qu&#8217;il nous faudra six pneus suppl\u00e9mentaires. Il nous demande de confirmer que le moteur fonctionne et qu&#8217;il pourra faire avancer le bateau \u00e0 plus de 5 n\u0153uds pour \u00eatre dans les temps. <strong>He insists on this point <\/strong>et nous comprenons qu&#8217;il faudra bien v\u00e9rifier le moteur avant de partir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enfin, il nous rappelle que l&#8217;officier qui sera avec nous sur le bateau le jour j : <strong>l&#8217;advisor<\/strong>, devra manger chaud, plut\u00f4t du poulet et des f\u00e9culents. Il devra boire dans des bouteilles d&#8217;eau scell\u00e9es et qu&#8217;il appr\u00e9ciera un coca cola frais. Nous avions d\u00e9j\u00e0 lu qu&#8217;il \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s important de bien nourir l&#8217;advisor car sinon <strong>the deposit would not be returned to us in its entirety.<\/strong> We therefore take note of all the advice given to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following its passage, <strong>la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape est d&#8217;aller payer le passage.<\/strong> In all, cruising, deposit and security fees included, we have for <strong>2 900 dollars<\/strong> (1 600 de passage, 1 100 de caution et 300 de frais de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et autres). Une fois encore, ce n&#8217;est pas simple. La banque \u00e0 laquelle nous devons payer permet seulement le d\u00e9p\u00f4t et demande un paiement en esp\u00e8ces. Le sac est rempli de billets de 20 dollars et nous nous empressons de parcourir les 500m qui s\u00e9parent les deux banques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the payment is made, we call a number the next day which informs us that we will pass on Friday February 4th; <strong>nous n&#8217;avons donc plus que trois jours pour finir nos pr\u00e9paratifs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These three days were very intense. The first thing we did was to put a post on a Facebook group to find our line handlers. The next day, we exchanged with <em>Andrew<\/em> and <em>Mike<\/em>, deux anglais disponibles pour nous aider. N\u00e9anmoins, nous prenons un bon coup de pression la veille car il faut qu&#8217;Emilien retourne \u00e0 Col\u00f3n pour acqu\u00e9rir le permis de plaisance (payant lui aussi) n\u00e9cessaire pour faire la clearance de sortie aux douanes (le zarpe). Il en profitera pour finir les courses avant le d\u00e9part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le jour J, tout ce qui devait mal se passer s&#8217;est mal pass\u00e9. D\u00e9j\u00e0,<strong> le moteur de l&#8217;annexe est tomb\u00e9 en rade. <\/strong>So we had to go with Noddi to the quay to look for the two Englishmen. <strong>Mais si ce n&#8217;\u00e9tait que \u00e7a, ce serait simple !<\/strong> Une patte de fixation du c\u00e2ble d&#8217;acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur du moteur de Noddi s&#8217;est cass\u00e9e et nous ne pouvons plus acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer \u00e0 trois heures du d\u00e9part. Or l&#8217;annulation revient \u00e0 tout devoir payer de nouveau !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous r\u00e9parons \u00e7a par ruse avec Emilien en deux heures. Pendant ce temps, Lucas qui s&#8217;\u00e9tait fait d\u00e9poser \u00e0 terre n&#8217;a pas le temps de finir les douanes, doit ramener l&#8217;annexe nous ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pann\u00e9e et perd son t\u00e9l\u00e9phone. \u00c0 midi, <strong>nous \u00e9tions d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien haut sur l&#8217;\u00e9chelle des choses qui tournent mal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous allons \u00e0 quai \u00e0 13h et les anglais nous attendent, avec un employ\u00e9 du port. Il veut nous faire payer 25 dollars pour charger du monde \u00e0 bord. Heureusement, en vrais gentlemen, Andrew et Mike paient pour nous et nous restons au port le temps que l&#8217;on finisse les douanes. Nous repartons 30 minutes plus tard et appelons les autorit\u00e9s du canal pour conna\u00eetre notre heure de passage pr\u00e9cise ; <strong>it will be 6pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we have some time to decompress and it feels good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00c0 17h45, l&#8217;advisor monte \u00e0 bord.<\/strong> Il nous fait un bref topo et nous levons ensuite l&#8217;ancre. Les choses s\u00e9rieuses commencent et nous entrons dans le chenal d&#8217;acc\u00e8s au canal. Nous naviguons entre les immenses navires de transport de marchandises, et \u00e7a fait tout dr\u00f4le. D&#8217;autant plus qu&#8217;ils vont plus vite que nous et donc qu&#8217;ils nous doublent. The locks are about 20 meters high and 1000 feet long. Nous envoyons nos amarres \u00e0 des employ\u00e9s du canal qui suivent l&#8217;avanc\u00e9e du bateau \u00e0 pied. Nous s\u00e9curisons les amarres avant que le p\u00e9trolier d\u00e9marre et avance en direction de la prochaine \u00e9cluse. Le courant produit par les h\u00e9lices est extraordinaire ! Le bateau recule sous son effet et les amarres se tendent. Noddi bouge beaucoup et <strong>les tourbillons dans l&#8217;eau ne nous rassurent pas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une fois les remous pass\u00e9s, les employ\u00e9s du canal retirent les amarres des bites d&#8217;amarrage et nous pouvons recommencer toute la man\u0153uvre <strong>twice more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 11 pm we leave the last lock. <strong>We are finally on the Gat\u00fan lake!<\/strong> Noddi sails for the first time <strong>sur de l&#8217;eau douce<\/strong> et il est donc un peu plus bas sur l&#8217;eau que d&#8217;habitude. Nous avan\u00e7ons quelques miles jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 arriver \u00e0 une \u00e9norme bou\u00e9e d&#8217;amarrage. C&#8217;est l\u00e0 que nous passerons la nuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous buvons une petite bi\u00e8re tous ensemble et l&#8217;advisor finit par partir. Nous ne tra\u00eenons pas pour nous coucher <strong>because the next day the departure is planned at 7 am.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous d\u00e9couvrons le paysage au petit matin. L&#8217;eau est verte, trouble et la for\u00eat nous entoure, deux raisons qui ne nous donne pas envie de nous baigner. En effet, le lac est aussi connu pour ses crocodiles de 6 m\u00e8tres ! Ensuite, nous man\u0153uvrons \u00e0 trois bateaux pour entrer dans l&#8217;\u00e9cluse. Emilien est tr\u00e8s concentr\u00e9 \u00e0 la barre et \u00e9coute l&#8217;advisor qui g\u00e8re le convoi tel un chef d&#8217;orchestre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous sommes le bateau le plus \u00e0 droite et nous devrons donc g\u00e9rer ces deux amarres. La man\u0153uvre est la m\u00eame que la veille mais en sens inverse: nous envoyons nos amarres aux employ\u00e9s \u00e0 quai et ils les mettent sur des bites d&#8217;amarrage. Une fois les bateaux bien centr\u00e9s et amarr\u00e9s, le p\u00e9trolier entre et les locomotives le calent. <strong>Les portes se ferment et le niveau de l&#8217;eau commence \u00e0 descendre.<\/strong> La man\u0153uvre est bien plus douce par rapport \u00e0 la veille et tout se passe bien.
